About the Artist

Brian Hickey has 25 years experience as a professional graphic designer. He is a co- founder of the design agency Emagine Media and led the company as its creative director for almost 20 years. He exited the company in 2019 to focus on developing a fine art career.

Brian builds and photographs miniature sets, populated with action figures. His images tell stories that are inspired by popular culture. He is influenced and inspired by the works of Kim Simmons, David Levinthal, Mark Hogancamp and Tatsuya Tanaka.

In March of 2020 Brian’s image titled “Drive ’75” made it successfully through the pre-selection round for the 190th RHA Annual Exhibition. In June of 2020 he received the Covid19 Crisis Response Award from the Arts Council of Ireland, which enabled him to create a body of new work titled Science Fiction Series One, exploring themes of ''rising to challenges'' and ''overcoming adversity’'.Brian has recently completed a significant body of work consisting of more than 400 images recreating the entire Star Wars original trilogy, using vintage toys and sets made from found objects and recycled waste.
