Djuna O’Neill studied Fine Art Textiles at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, graduating in 2020 amidst the Covid19 lockdown. The sensory and tactile hold importance in O’Neill’s work, combined with digital media to explore how tactility can be translated across these realms. Also explored in her work are techniques related to traditional craft and heritage, often inspired by the surrounding landscapes of Galway and local folklore. Working across mixed media, photography always played a formative role in O’Neill’s work and research, gradually becoming a focus and a more central element of her work. During the lockdown O’Neill drew inspiration from her immediate surroundings, photographing childhood haunts on 120 and 35 mm film and home - developing the negatives. O’Neill’s work spans moving image, photography and mixed media sculpture.
