House of Common Affairs Journal, Issue 1: The Fourth Estate Utopias

House of Common Affairs

Ten years after the financial crisis in the West, the social, cultural, political, and economic effects are very much still felt by the general public. The economic strain has encouraged people to support more right-wing politics, the arts and education sectors experienced significant cuts to funding, especially in the United Kingdom. Therefore, it is more important than ever to highlight the value of the arts: bringing attention to projects that strive for more than just self-expression, fame or sales. House of Common Affairs (HOCA) journal highlights the potential of how higher education of artists and designers can positively contribute to society. One of the ways this is evident is what we call artistic journalism.

The development of artistic journalism has been very little investigated. Moreover, a platform for the publication of artistic journalistic projects is missing. Therefore, HOCA aims to fill this gap in cultural discourse and give the development of artistic journalistic production a new cultural prominence.
