About the Artist

Wilhelmina Peace is a visual artist printmaker originally from France and currently living and working in Belfast, Northern Ireland. She first came to Northern Ireland in 2009 to study cultural anthropology at Queens University Belfast. She currently studies Fine Art Printmaking at Ulster University Belfast as well as working from her studio in Vault Artist Studios in East Belfast where she organises classes and workshops that range from experimental drawing, printmaking to introductions to multi-cultural art forms. Her background as an anthropologist continues to influence her work, especially in the realm of mythology, ritual and psychology. Her work is an exploration into overarching narratives of metamorphosis, both on a personal level and on a wider, societal plane. She investigates myths and legends from different cultures past and present in order to bring to light our own intimate mythopoesis and becoming. Her current body of work is interested in the sympathetic relationship between plant life, psychological phenomena and the narratives that emerge through their symbiotic representation. Wilhelmina’s work has been exhibited in Germany and throughout Belfast art galleries since 2018. In Spring 2020 Wilhelmina was awarded the Royal Hibernian Association's Micro Grant to help sustain her career during the current pandemic.
