About the Artist

Terry Lawless is a full-time educator, visual artist, and printmaker based in Wicklow. A graduate of Art College in Galway, he spent several years in the print and sign-making industry before transitioning to teaching art. Now, with his family growing up, Terry has re-engaged with his artistic practice, focusing on drawing, illustration, murals, and, most notably, printmaking. Lino printing plays a pivotal role in Terry’s work. His process involves layering translucent colours and linear patterns, creating complex and sometimes obscured imagery. Through this approach, he explores the dualities of the human mind — the light and dark, the hidden and visible — reflected in the identity of the mask wearer.

Terry has participated in several group exhibitions, print exchanges, and open competitions. His prints have been exhibited at the Royal Ulster Academy, the Triennale Exhibition in Switzerland, and the Awagami Print Exhibition, Japan. His work and process are available to view online, and he is a member of Visual Artists Ireland and a full member of Black Church Print Studio in Dublin. Currently, Terry is developing a body of work for his upcoming solo exhibition, Perceptions, which will be held at Wicklow Library in November 2024.
