Launch 7-9pm Friday 28 October 2022
At The Library Project
Channel, a Dublin-based literary journal publishing poetry and prose that fosters human connection with the natural world, is due to celebrate its seventh issue with an in-person launch on 28 October and an online launch on 3 November.
The journal, edited by fiction writer Cassia Gaden Gilmartin and poet Elizabeth Murtough, publishes poetry and prose that fosters connection with the natural world in a time of ecological crisis. Conceived on 15 March 2019, the day of the first global climate strike that year, it aims to bring writers and artists together in building new narratives around climate breakdown.
The project draws inspiration from international journals of eco-writing such as the US magazine Orion and the UK-based Elementum. It is the first Irish journal focused specifically on nature and place since the closure of EarthLines Magazine, edited by Sharon Blackie and David Knowles, in 2017.
Issue 7 features writing drawn from over 1500 submissions, with contributions from such respected Irish and international voices as Gerard Beirne, DS Maolalai and Liudmyla Diadchenko alongside exciting new talent such as Selina Eagney, Susanna Galbraith and Ukata Edwardson.
The issue’s in-person launch at The Library Project will feature readings by Issue 7 contributors alongside a musical performance by Alain Servant, and refreshments will be served. Also featured will be a series of readings by contributors to Channel’s back issues, who will perform their own work alongside selected pieces from Issue 7, celebrating the through-lines and collective conversations that have built up across Channel’s first three years of publishing. The launch takes place the night before the opening of HALFTONE print fair, an annual exhibit of artworks and printed materials from creatives around Ireland hosted by The Library Project, and a preview of the work for sale at the fair will be on display across the walls.
