Aida Silvestri explores new approaches of documentary photography to address potent current issues of culture, ethnicity, identity, health and politics.
In this newspaper, two of her series addressing themes of human rights are featured. Even This Will Pass confronts the issue of human trafficking and the plights of Eritrean refugees whose voices often remain unheard. Unsterile Clinic directs our attention to gender-based violence and the widespread practice of Female Genital Mutilation.
In both projects, Silvestri skilfully combines photographic portraiture, visual activism and poems written in collaboration with her participants to provide harrowing personal testimonies.
Includes introductory texts and an essay by Renée Mussai.
