Balance explores a place where human beings and nature work together and need each other to thrive. Taken over the duration of 2018 and 2019, quotes and imagery highlight the importance of The Santry Community Garden, Dublin to its volunteers' mental health. The photographs focus on the garden, the volunteers, their work, relationship and the results of their work. The quotes focus on the meaning.
Johanna King is a Dublin-based documentary photographer. Originally from France, Johanna King studied Communication and Graphic Design in college. Having lived in the Middle-East before coming to Ireland, she developed an interest for people and how all different, yet similar they are, no matter where in the world they come from. Her photography practice is centred around the themes of motherhood, family, passing of time and transmission. Having spent her childhood in a small countryside village, she also explores her city neighbourhood, looking for the strange or mundane, the resulting photographs being like questions about the world and its inhabitants. Her relationship with nature is also a constant inspiration in her work.
