About the Artist

John Waid is a maker, educator, inventor, photographer, collector, talker and a nuisance.  He was a lecturer at The National College of Art and Design in Dublin for 30+ years where he continues to develop educational projects and has been requested back to deliver tutorials, talks and run creative workshops.

He also makes physical work, and is a serial inventor of mostly useless items and a generator of proposals under the collective name: Dubious Proposals Of An Easily Deniable Nature. One of these was shown at EVA in 2016 when he attempted to change the time zone in Ireland with the piece of work titled 909,125 Minutes Later. Contradictions, opposites, dualities, impractical solutions, language deviations, references to Belfast are all of interest, and explored with humour and humanity.

In addition to his physical work, Waid also offers a number of slide show/talks and creative workshops. He currently has a show of work in The Shankill Road Library Gallery, which has been extended due to popular demand. He is a member of the London Institute of Pataphysics and remains a practicing artist at the Flax Studios Belfast.
