Pheasant (Piasún), County Cork.
The pheasant was introduced to Ireland for hunting by the Normans. Many pheasants escaped and they are now widespread, living at the woodland edge and in farmland.
Joe Hollingsworth is a young Irish illustrator living and working in Dublin. He has developed his unique style influenced by Pop Art and American comic books – but the subject matter for this range of greetings cards is much closer to home.
In collaboration with designer OystercatcherTF, 'The Winter Birds Series' is made up of six beautifully produced A6 greetings cards featuring original illustrations.
These are the birds we come to know in Winter, whether as visitors or woven within the fabric of the season; the Brent Goose, the Robin, the Pheasant, the Partridge, the Oystercatcher and the Wren.
The birds are placed on a white background allowing them to define their own shape and outline. Designed and printed in Ireland, these cards are intended to act as Christmas cards for those seeking to avoid the usual Seasonal imagery.
