Daniela Friebel did research in the Photographic Collection of the Dresden Technical Collections. In her research, she focused on the photographic legacies of VEB Pentacon Dresden, the large company in the state photo industry that had its headquarters in the Ernemann building, today's museum location, until 1990. In her media-archaeological work, she has primarily dealt with the recordings from the company's advertising department, which have been taken since the early 1950s. Until then, these remained almost hidden, because most of the photographs were only available as negatives and were therefore not visible to the naked eye. Taken from the solitude of the archive, transcribed in short tonal values, occasionally reproduced inverted or left as negatives. many shots offer strange objects and constellations that appear surreal. Traces of manual image processing using adhesive montages and also colored retouching colors reinforce the alienation effect.
