This particular corner by a laneway off Abbey Street always draws me in. I’m also attracted by yellow and the strong lines on the road flow with the yellow of the walls through the lane. The ornate statues on the roof glancing down on such a seedy spot. The things that they would have seen. The cut out lettering making the word Amusements. It has all changed now and new murals have been painted over these blocks of colour.

About the Artist

Joanne 'Betty' Conlon is an Irish multifaceted visual artist based in Dublin. Her creativity is deeply intertwined with the passage of time and the transformative power of memory. She graduated from Limerick School of Art & Design, specialising in fine art printmaking.

Betty returned to her art practice over a decade ago. Since then, she has exhibited nationally and internationally at the Format International Photography Festival, RHA, RUA, Visual, The Darkroom, Dunamaise Arts Centre and the Library Project, among others. Betty has received funding through The Arts Council Agility Award 2022 and 2023. Her work has featured in the Winter Papers arts anthology and Irish Arts Review. Her work is held by the Northern Ireland Civil Service Art Collection and by private collectors.

She is a co-owner with her husband of Pixelated, a design studio based in Cabra. She also works part-time for Forvis Mazars as a graphic designer in all digital media areas.
