About the Artist

Kevin Sharkey’s fascination with photography began in childhood, when he would leaf through the colourful pages of National Geographics at a friend’s house. The vivid pictures of people and scenes from around the world captivated him. After working for many years in finance he realised he needed to make some life changes, so left it to volunteer in Africa. While there he fell in love with the people and their surrounding environments. He felt a strong desire to document what he was seeing and feeling. To capture people in their own world and tell their story through photography.

He travelled another six years taking pictures in such places as Brazil, Russia, Mongolia and Ukraine before returning to Ireland to turn his photography into a career. In-between shooting weddings and family functions he works on his own projects. He likes working with people the most. His goal is to make them at ease in their own environment so to tell their story through a picture. Printing is his other passion. He believes a picture is not finished until it is printed. Kevin has taken part in exhibitions in the RHA, the RUA and the National Gallery of Ireland.
