DESCRIPTION

Observation Alters Observed is a publication that aims to shift our perspectives and generally expand our understandings of light (visible and invisible) and waveforms through film photography, illustrations and metaphoric observations.

— ‘The Observer Effect’ is a phenomenon in which the physical form of light is altered based upon the observation of a viewer. When light is observed it takes the form of a wave, creating wavelike patterns but when there is no one to observe it, light takes the form of a particle, yet still creates the same pattern as it did when it is being observed. Therefore light is, in theory, simultaneously in a wave and a particle. This phenomenon is not something we can understand or give logic to, it just is.

This publication has been designed in two parts, from two perspectives. There is a split down the center of the booklet and the two sections are bound on opposite ends with a zig zag stitch that divides two altering perspectives. This design forces the viewer to physically alter their perspective of the publication and turn it to read its content. The physicality of the publication is integral to its effectiveness and adds an element of movement to the work.
