DESCRIPTION

Remembering the past always comes with an image or view attached. The Transcendence of Innocent Objects uses this premise to examine humankind’s continual forging of polymorphous stories. Exploring the remote Gaeltacht region of Gleann Cholm Cille, south-west Donegal, an ever-changing environment which is the site of 6,000-year-old pagan monuments, a humbling coastline and everyday artefacts dating back to the 18th century.

The photographer observes the many remnants of historical and cultural heritage found in the area. The series is an anthropological and archaeological study of the region, providing a lyrically woven narrative to accompany those already embedded in the landscape. The images which look to the present, engage with traces of the past, reminding us that we are all just passing through.

This publication was produced as part of the Inspirational Arts Award 2020, where each finalist received a TLP Edition of their graduate project. Sebastian F Mahon represented Griffith College Dublin.
