Those Who Left, Fatma Belkis

Fatma Belkıs’s debut book, Those Who Left (2011) voiced a particular generation criticized for their detachment from politics and the country’s problems. The book consists of portraits of young people who decided to disappear, leaving an open letter behind voicing the angst and frustration of their generation. It appears that 'Özal Generation', as baptized by distinguished academic and translator Mina Urgan in her memoirs, didn’t turn out to be what they seemed.
