These photographs by Alessandro Cirillo are part of a single performative action of which he himself is an actor, in some way adopting its practice. Not only do the bodies of migrants become images, but his plastic images of those bodies in turn become a single body, assuming their materiality and agency. Those who look at these images do so through the eyes of the author, experiencing his own empathy. Identifies with him, but also with the people portrayed, in their dramatic life experience, sharing a path of knowledge. It is a courage to know. There is in the theater - as well as in the performance - a component of identification, of "making" an image, as if what is done or seen became a material image with its own corpus and its own presence. Imagination allows us to create an image of ourselves or of something that belongs to us and then look at it from the outside, as is used in psychotherapy to overcome traumas or as normally happens in artistic practice.
