'Body #2' belongs to the body of work Lay Her Down Upon Her Back, which explores medical mistreatment and understanding of hysteria in women from the 19th century up to our contemporary medical systems. The series explores the performative nature of photography and the medical gaze.

About the Artist

Róisín White is a visual artist based in Dublin. She works with photography and mixed-media sculpture. Her work often stems from found objects and stories to create work in an expanded photographic practice.

Róisín is a visual arts facilitator, working with children and young people to create collaborative and independent projects.

Róisín has exhibited her work extensively in Ireland and across Europe, with recent solo exhibitions at Pallas Projects and The Library Project.

Her work in Ireland has been supported by The Arts Council, the Dublin City Arts Office, and the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, including a residency and public art commission at The Baths DLR Studios from 2023 – 2025.

In 2023 her photographic project Lay Her Down Upon Her Back will be published by Landskrona Breadfield (Sweden) and Witty Books (Italy).
